Spurious 4 year pattern

Here's another series of spurious patterns. Every 4 years, there will be an incredible, unbelievable football result. Actually for some of these examples, I'm straining a little bit, because I think that 2020 is going to be the year that - touch wood - Liverpool will win the premiership and Leeds will finally return to the premiership.

1988:
PSV Eindhoven wins the European Cup
Wimbledon wins the FA Cup in England


1992:
Denmark wins the European Championships
Leeds wins the English League


1996:
Auxerre wins Ligue 1
Man Utd wins the Premiership with a young team, overcoming a 12 point deficit vs Newcastle at Christmas

2000:
Deportivo La Coruna wins La Liga
Galatasaray wins UEFA cup

2004:
Greece wins the European Championships
Porto wins the UEFA Champions League

2008:
Portsmouth wins the FA Cup
Zenit St Petersburg wins Europa league

2012:
Chelsea wins the UEFA champions league
Man City wins the premiership in the last minute of play
Montpellier wins Ligue 1

2016:
Leicester wins the premiership
Portugal wins the European Championships

2020, if all goes as planned, Liverpool will win the premiership. It won't be a momentous as Chicago Cubs or Boston Red Sox winning the World Series, but it will be close.
